MANILA – The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said Wednesday that families of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been allowed to visit the correctional facilities during the Christmas holidays.

In a memorandum, BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said stay-in privileges would be in two batches so more families could avail of these privileges while maintaining order within the facilities.

For Christmas, the first batch stayed from 8 a.m. on Dec. 24 until 7 a.m. on Dec. 25, while the second batch could stay from 8 a.m. on Dec. 25 until 7 a.m. on Dec. 26.

During the New Year festivities, the first batch will have their stay from 8 a.m. on Dec. 31 to 7 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2025 and the second batch from 8 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2025 to 7 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2025.

Catapang said Christmas is a time for family and the initiative signifies BuCor’s commitment to nurturing family relationships even within the confines of correctional facilities.

He said this initiative reflects a broader understanding of the importance of family ties in the rehabilitation process of PDLs.

He underscored that even those within correctional facilities deserve the opportunity to connect meaningfully with their loved ones. (PNA)
