“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”: the book and the movie
Inspired by JK Rowling’s 2001 book of the same name, the movie (also known as simply “Fantastic Beasts”) is set for worldwide release on November 18 2016. The film stars Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, and Colin Farrell.
Rowling’s original “Fantastic Beasts” describes itself as Harry Potter’s copy of a Hogwarts textbook written by a character called Newt Scamander, complete with notes by Harry, Hermione and Ron. Warner Bros. were inspired to create a movie which follows Scamander’s life and adventures before the production of the textbook.
JK Rowling: from the page to the screen
When the production of “Fantastic Beasts” (the movie) was announced, Warner Bros. also revealed that the film would be one of a trilogy. The scripts mark JK Rowling’s screenwriting debut. The British author will also be directing, alongside previous Harry Potter directors David Heyman, Steve Kloves, and Lionel Wigram.
A pop-up and pull-out
Details have been announced for two of the tie-in books. “A Pop-up Gallery of Curiosities”, retailing for £20 ($26), will feature three-dimensional pop-ups of some of the Harry Potter franchise’s favorite curiosities such as the flying car, singing hat and an enchanted case. Accompanying text to the pop-ups will explain how the items were achieved in the movies. The second tie-in book to accompany the movie is entitled “Newt Scamander: A Movie Scrapbook”. A scrapbook containing pullouts of wizarding newspapers, posters and more, the book will retail for £14.99 ($20).
