MANILA – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will implement innovations for a better and modern Batang Pinoy National Championships in General Santos City on Oct. 25 to 30.

More than 15,000 athletes aged 17 and below will compete in aquatics, archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, cycling, dancesport, futsal, gymnastics, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, karate, muay, pencak silat, sepak takraw, soft tennis, tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.

“Our main objective for this year’s Batang Pinoy is to provide the delegates an excellent experience as if they are competing in a global level of competition,” PSC Chair Richard Bachmann said at the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum in Manila on Tuesday.

Project director Nino Deo Urquiaga and PSC technical working group heads also attended the weekly session presented by San Miguel Corporation, PSC and Philippine Olympic Committee.

Among the innovations are the QR (quick response) code system for the schedules and results, adjusting the age limit based on the sport, and better transportation for the delegates by providing electric-jeepneys during their stay in the country’s so-called tuna capital.

The PSC technical working group recently sat down with General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao during an ocular inspection of the venues.

“We are so lucky that the government of General Santos City is just as excited,” Urquiaga said. (PNA)
