MANILA (Mabuhay) – President Benigno Aquino III is confident that he will be given additional powers to address the looming power shortage in the summer of 2015.

Speaking to reporters in Indonesia, Aquino said, “At the end of the day, sino kaya sa mambabatas natin ang magvo-volunteer na kung saka-sakali dumating ang brownout natin next year at wala tayong mahugutan, sino kaya sa kanila ang papayag na maalala, ‘Kung pumayag kayo meron tayong pagbubunutan. Hindi kayo pumayag, ayan wala tayong pagbubunutan.’”

Aquino, however, appealed to lawmakers to grant Malacañang’s request right away.

He explained that the government needs time to lay the groundwork.

Kung ipapasa niyo ipasa naman niyo sanang mas maaga kaysa mas matagal dahil iba na rin yung marami tayong oras para asikasuhin itong isyung ito,” he said.

The president noted that among the assets government is looking to tap are diesel generators.

He said negotiating the contracts, transporting, and installing these generators take time.

Kung kokontrata tayo nung mga diesel plants dahil may physical movement, di ba? Iyong diesel generators na malakihan, 300 megawatts, parang modules of 100 – kung tama ang tanda ko. Kabuuan 300 nung dati na kwentahan tapos modules of 100,” Aquino said.

So kailangan mo i-transport sa panggalingan nila at i-install dito tapos lahat nung mga –may other civil works doon e. Iyong fuel tanks, yung pipes, lahat non,” he added. (MNS)
