MANILA – Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas on Friday expressed full support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to investigate water service providers, including PrimeWater, amid rising complaints of poor and inconsistent service from its customers.

“Clean and reliable water is a basic need, and any service issues must be reviewed fairly and with urgency,” the administration-backed coalition said in a statement Friday.

“Any inquiry must be guided by facts and focused on ensuring providers meet their obligations to the people,” it added.

President Marcos earlier instructed the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Local Water Utilities Administration to conduct a thorough review of PrimeWater and other concessionaires following mounting public grievances.

PrimeWater is owned by the Villar family, but Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas stood firm in reaffirming its support for Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar, who remains a senatorial candidate under the coalition’s 2025 slate.

“We respect her track record in public service and trust that she, like all our candidates, supports efforts that promote transparency, accountability, and the public good,” Navotas Lone District Rep. and Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas campaign manager Toby Tiangco said.

The coalition emphasized that public concerns – whether involving local utilities or private firms – deserve to be addressed through proper and transparent channels.

“In a Bagong Pilipinas, the welfare of the people always comes first,” Alyansa concluded. (PNA)
