MANILA – The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) has deployed 175 personnel and mobility assets to bolster security for events related to this year’s Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Cebu in May.

The contingent is composed of 175 HPG personnel — 108 motorcycle riders operating 108 motorcycles, 38 drivers and 24 crew members manning 38 mobile patrol vehicles, and supervised by five convoy officers.

Following the send-off rites in Camp Crame on Tuesday, the deployed personnel and assets will be formally turned over to the Presidential Security Command (PSC) for integration into the overall security framework for ASEAN 2026.

During the ceremony, PNP-HPG acting director Brig. Gen. Rommel Batangan personally inspected the readiness and operational capability of HPG mobility assets and checked the preparedness of personnel.

Batangan underscored the importance of the mission, emphasizing that the deployment represents the country’s commitment to global cooperation, peace and regional solidarity.

He also reminded personnel that they serve as the frontliners in ensuring the safe and secure movement of ASEAN delegates and dignitaries.

“Our objectives are clear: zero incidents, seamless mobility, and national pride,” Batnagan told the contingent.

“Your presence on the road must reflect order, safety, and excellence as you carry both the badge of the HPG and the flag of the Philippines.”

The deployed HPG personnel and assets will support traffic management, route security, and overall mobility coordination in Cebu as part of the whole-of-government approach to ensure the safe and orderly conduct of ASEAN 2026. (PNA)
