MANILA – Top seed Alberto Lim Jr. and No. 2 seed Jed Olivarez blanked their opponents to advance to the second round of the Gentry National Open Tennis Championships at Colegio San Agustin in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan on Saturday.
Lim, coming off a title victory at the Philippine Columbian Association Open last week, whipped Patrick Paumar, 6-0, 6-0, to advance against Richard Bautista, who walked over Philippe Coteron.
Olivarez also delivered a dominant performance, shutting out Kian John Sanchez, 6-0, 6-0.
He will next face John Christopher Sonsona, who rallied past Carlos Jose Austria, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
No. 4 John Benedict Aguilar, No. 5 John Kendrick Bona, No. 6 Ronard Joven, No. 7 Nilo Ledama and No. 8 Loucas Julian Fernandez also moved to the next round.
In other matches, Aguilar outplayed Hilbert San Jose, 6-4, 6-2; Bona defeated Nash Agustines, 6-4, 6-1; Joven clobbered Sammie Quiño, 6-1, 6-0; Ledama beat Kean Sebastian Enriquez, 6-2, 6-0; and Fernandez downed Jan Andre Rodriguez, 6-1, 6-1.
The men’s singles champion will get PHP300,000 and the runner-up PHP150,000, while in the women’s division, the singles champion and runner-up will receive PHP100,000 and PHP50,000, respectively. (PNA)
