MANILA – Churches under the three dioceses in Bicol will be conducting second collections during Masses on Sunday for those affected by Typhoon Opong.
In separate circulars, the Dioceses of Legazpi, Sorsogon and Masbate have sought for the generosity of the faithful to support the calls for donations for typhoon victims.
“Our Second Collection for this Sunday, 28 September 2025, including the Anticipated Masses on Saturday, will be set aside for aid to the Diocese of Masbate, which has been severely affected by Typhoon Opong,” the Legazpi diocese said in a social media post.
“By giving generously, you are directly helping our brothers and sisters in Masbate who are struggling with loss, damage and disruption caused by the storm,” it added.
The diocese assured that the offering will be remitted through diocesan channels, to be sent as assistance as soon as possible.
On the other hand, the Diocese of Sorsogon, aside from offering prayers for those who suffered from the storm, has started implementing the second collection during Masses on Saturday evening and will run until eucharistic celebrations on Sunday.
Also, the diocese is accepting in-kind donations which the public may leave at any of the following drop-off points: The Vicarial Seats of Sts. Peter & Paul Cathedral Parish, Sorsogon City; St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Gubat, Sorsogon; St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Irosin, Sorsogon; Immaculate Conception Parish, Bulan, Sorsogon; Our Lady of the Pillar Parish, Pilar, Sorsogon; your nearest Parish Church; and High School Seminary Auditorium.
“Taking advantage of this opportunity to express to each of you my appreciation and support, and imparting upon you my paternal blessings, I am Sincerely yours in Christ,” Sorsogon Bishop Jose Alan Dialogo said.
The Diocese of Daet will join other churches in implementing a second collection in all Masses on Sunday.
“In the spirit of Christian solidarity and communion and as we offer our prayers and sacrifices for the victims of typhoon, Opong, I am directing that a Second Collection during all Masses be made in all the parishes and quasi-parishes of the Diocese of Daet this coming Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025,” Bishop Herman Abcede said.
“The proceeds of this collection will be sent to the Diocese of Masbate to assist them in their recovery and rebuilding efforts.”
He asked the faithful to continue to pray for those affected by the typhoon.
“Let us also continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Masbate, that the Lord may strengthen them during this time of trial and grant them hope as they rebuild their lives. As we do this, we also extend help to alleviate their suffering,” he said. (PNA)
