MANILA – Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Friday called on his fellow public officials to work harder for peace, unity, and inclusivity and serve with sincerity and compassion.
In his Eid al-Adha message, the leader of the House of Representatives said the commemoration of one of the most sacred celebrations in Islam should serve as a reminder of “the power of obedience to a higher calling, the importance of selflessness, and the strength found in unity.”
“These are values that resonate not only within the Islamic tradition but also across all faiths and cultures. They are values that bind us together as a people, regardless of belief or background,” he said.
Eid al-Adha honors the profound faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son in submission to God’s command. People observe the occasion with prayers, feasts, and the tradition of sharing meat with family, friends, and those in need.
Romualdez said the story of Eid al-Adha speaks of sacrifice made out of trust and devotion – a message that remains relevant in today’s world.
“It calls on all of us in government and society to serve with sincerity, to uphold justice and to always act in the best interest of the people we represent,” he said.
“Ang Eid al-Adha ay isang paalala ng pananampalataya, paninindigan, at sakripisyo. Sa pagsasabuhay ng diwa ng kapistahang ito, nawa’y maging mas matatag ang ating pagkakaisa bilang isang sambayanan (The Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of faith, principle, and sacrifice. In commemorating the spirit of this feast, may our unity as a nation be strengthened.)”
As Speaker of the House, Romualdez reaffirmed the commitment of Congress to support policies that honor diversity and uphold religious freedoms.
“Our unity as a nation is strengthened by the respect we show for one another’s traditions and expressions of faith,” he said.
“Let this celebration inspire us to work harder for peace, for inclusivity, and for a government that listens to every voice, including those that have often gone unheard. The lessons of this sacred day encourage us to act with compassion, clarity, and courage.” (PNA)
