BUTUAN CITY – The Surigao del Norte Police reported the capture on Siargao Island of an escapee from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm on Thursday.

Provincial Police Director, Col. Warren Dablo, described the escapee as a 53-year-old resident of Barangay Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City.

The fugitive was apprehended in Barangay Union, Dapa on Siargao Island at about 3:35 a.m. on Thursday.

“The PDL (person deprived of liberty) was accused and sentenced for the crime of robbery with homicide under Criminal Case No. 169 at the Regional Trial Court Branch 43 in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental on May 30, 2012,” Dablo said in a statement.

He said the individual was subsequently sent to the Davao Prison and Penal Farm on the same date to serve his sentence.

However, on May 22, 2025, due to a medical condition, the PDL was confined at the Tagum General Hospital, from where he escaped on June 3.

“The (Surigao del Norte police) successfully apprehended the escapee without incident, following a series of targeted intelligence operations across the province,” Dablo said. “This coordinated effort underscores our steadfast commitment to public safety and highlights the effectiveness of collaboration, intelligence-sharing, and decisive law enforcement action in upholding the rule of law.”

The escapee is now under the custody of the Dapa Municipal Police for proper disposition. (PNA)
