MANILA – Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac extended government assistance to the family of United Kingdom (UK)-based overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Jerrick Gomez, who died after an accident in Bramshott, Hampshire, in April.

In a news release, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said Cacdac personally visited the wake of Gomez on Tuesday in Parañaque City, and personally extended condolences on behalf of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to the grieving family.

“The DMW provided financial assistance through the AKSYON (Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFW na Nangangailangan) Fund to ensure immediate support for the family during this difficult time,” the agency said.

Gomez worked as a nurse in the UK for nearly five years.

Reports said he died four days after a collision accident on the southbound carriageway near Bramshott and the Hindhead Tunnel in Surrey in April.

Gomez is survived by his wife, Jo-Anne, their four-year-old child, Yasi Gaile, his parents, and siblings, all based in the Philippines.

He had plans to return to the Philippines to attend his child’s moving-up ceremony, but the accident prevented him from doing so and resulted in his demise.

Meanwhile, Cacdac also directed the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to process benefit rebates for Gomez’s father, Jerry, a retired seafarer who worked at sea for 34 years.

Jo-Anne expressed her appreciation for the DMW and its UK-based personnel for the swift repatriation of her husband’s remains and for the personal support extended to them during this difficult time. (PNA)
