SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The observance of Holy Week in Antique was generally peaceful despite several incidents monitored April 17 to 20.
The Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) monitored one death by drowning, one fire and four vehicular accidents.
“The drowning incident happened in the Municipality of Sebaste, fire incident in Hamtic and four vehicular accidents that happened in Sibalom, Anini-y, Pandan, and Culasi,” DRRM Officer III Michael Tolentino said in an interview on Monday.
A 40-year-old male, reportedly intoxicated, went swimming with friends at Aras-asan Dam in Barangay Aras-asan, Sebaste, on April 17.
“His friends found his body submerged in the deeper portion of the dam and so they tried to rescue him,” Tolentino said.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at Sebaste Community Hospital.
Meanwhile, the fire incident in Poblacion 3, Hamtic on April 20 displaced five families, who are now staying at the village hall.
The victims of the vehicular accidents sustained just minor injuries, Tolentino said. (PNA)
