MANILA – A total of 161 individuals were arrested for various crimes in the Ilocos Region from Aug. 26 to Sept. 6, the regional police reported on Tuesday.

In a statement, Police Regional Office (PRO) 1 (Ilocos Region) director Brig. Gen. Dindo Reyes said of the 161 arrested, 67 were drug suspects captured in 56 anti-illegal drug operations that led to the confiscation of PHP6.1 million worth of illegal drugs, consisting of 602.05 grams of suspected shabu and 60.73 grams of marijuana, and the eradication of 10,250 fully grown marijuana plants and 1,000 seedlings. 

The rest of the arrested suspects included nine Most Wanted Persons.

The PRO-1 also conducted 15 operations against illegal possession of firearms, arresting 12 individuals, confiscating 13 firearms, and recovering 36 unexploded ordnance.

Reyes said the arrests demonstrated the unwavering commitment of PRO-1 in holding criminals accountable and ensuring justice for victims.

He said the people of the Ilocos region can rest assured that the police are not only capable but also committed to protecting lives, enforcing laws, and building lasting peace. (PNA)
